RON CASTONGUAY (b. 1971) is an educator, musician, composer, conductor and performer.  He is currently in his 2nd year as Director of the Arts and Music Director at The Frederick Gunn School in picturesque Washington, Connecticut, after spending 23 years at Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami, Florida, where he was the Department Chair for the Performing Arts and Music Director.  He directed String Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Vocal Ensemble and AP Music Theory. He has also taught a self-created course titled Jazz Theory & Improvisation as well as IB Music SL & HL. His ensembles from Gulliver Prep have earned consistent top marks at District, State and National Music Festivals.
He received his bachelor's degree in Music Theory & Composition from the University of Miami (FL.) in 1993. He is an active member of the Florida Orchestra Association, Florida Vocal Association, Florida Bandmasters’ Association, Florida Music Educators’ Association, Florida American String Teachers Association, Florida Schools Music Association and the Music Educators’ National Conference. Ron is a certified educator in the state of Florida for Music k-12.
In addition to his conducting and music education career, Ron is also a professional saxophonist and published composer with Leap Year Publishing.  Although new to formal publications of his works, Ron's compositions have been performed numerous times and span a wide array of genres, including a debut of one of his choral works, "Trust In The Mercy Of Your God," by the University of Miami's Chorale under the direction Jo-Michael Scheibe, as well as an entire concert of his own compositions and arrangements at the University of Miami's Gusman Hall in 2009 by a variety of ensembles in the wind, choral, string and jazz idioms. Ron resides in Washington, CT, with his wife Melissa, and their two daughters.
